Procedure

LICENSE UPGRADES

Extreme Management Center periodically enforces validation of contract coverage for supported products. This requires a renewal or 'upgrade' of the Extreme Management Center license following certain major upgrades. A grace period of 90-days is provided following any such upgrade.

NOTE: A grace period of 90-days is provided following any such upgrade to complete the license 'upgrade' process.
NOTE: It is *HIGHLY* recommended that the license 'upgrade' be completed and applied immediately *BEFORE* any upgrade of Extreme Management Center to avoid a potential oversight / lapse of the 90-day grace period resulting in Extreme Management Center reverting to an unlicensed inaccessible state.
NOTE: Subscription licenses '27001' do not need to be upgraded as part of this process; they are valid as long as they are entitled for support services under valid active contract.
 

UPGRADE PATHS

The upgrade path from the current deployment may require several interim steps depending on the starting release version and target release version.

UPGRADE PROCESS

The means to perform an appliance upgrade generally requires:
  1. Obtaining the Appliance Upgrade BIN file.
  2. Uploading the Appliance Upgrade BIN file to the appliance.
  3. Changing and executing the BIN file to start the upgrade.

ERRATA

For systems upgrading from releases prior to 8.0 it will be necessary to change CPU and memory allocation for both the virtual appliance configuration and operating system due to changes to product specifications.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING SUPPORT SERVICES FOR EXTREME MANAGEMENT CENTER

Extreme Networks now enforces a n-1 software support model with all prior releases no longer actively supported. GTAC support services:
  • will be provided on the two current General Availability (GA) release streams only
  • on all prior streams will be at the discretion of Extreme Networks and may be limited to upgrade assistance support only.
Example - as of software release 8.5.x Extreme supports Extreme Management Center 8.5.x and 8.4.x deployments with 8.3.x considered best-effort and all prior releases no support; upgrade assistance only.
