Objective
  • Create a custom alarm that will trigger on a port utilization percentage exceeding a defined threshold.
Environment
  • Extreme Management Center (XMC, formerly NetSight)
  • All Software Releases
  • Alarms & Events
Procedure
Create the basic port utilization threshold alarm as follows:
  1. Navigate to Alarms & Events -> Alarm Configuration.
  2. Click "Add".
  3. Set "Threshold Type" to "Extreme Management"
  4. Set "Statistic Type" to "Port"
  5. Set "Statistic Name" to "Port % Utilization"
  6. Set the threshold value via the "Cross When Value" field.
  7. Optionally select when to ignore the alarm via "Rearm When Value" field.
Optionally add an Action trigger for email notification:
  1. From within the alarm edit window, navigate to "Actions".
  2. Click "Add".
  3. Select "Email Action"
  4. Configure the email action as desired; however add the following additional directive to the body to output the port triggering the alarm.
    • An example adding "Port: $alarmSubcomponent" is shown below:
Device: 192.168.1.1
Severity: Warning 
Message: statistic: PortUtilizationPercent, value: 84.66045700000001, compared to: 80.0 
Port: 1/4
