« Go Back

Information

TitleHow to increase database memory on NSight
Objective
If the NSight appliance has not been provisioned correctly on resources, there is a way to increase the disk memory.
Environment
  • All Summit WM3000 Series Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • WirelessWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
  • WiNG v5.X Software
  • Extreme Wireless
Procedure
Pre-requisites
The VM where the NSight server is hosted needs to be installed with LVM. Otherwise, the new provisioning cannot be done.

Procedure

1. Add a new disk to NSight VM from ESXi console.
2. This command should list the current LVM status. You should see only sda10 listed and LV size almost the same as sda10.
nsight-D78BEA#show virtual-machine volume-group status
3. Disable nsight in night policy for server.
4. Put database in maintenance mode
nsight-D78BEA#service database maintenance-mode
5. Stop database server
nsight-D78BEA#service database server stop
Stopping database server.............complete.
% Database server stopped
6. New disk in step #1 should be at /dev/sdb
7. Add a new disk to LV
nsight-D78BEA#virtual-machine volume-group add-drive sdb
Physical volume "/dev/sdb1" successfully created
Volume group "vg0" successfully extended
Extending logical volume lv1 to 25.91 GiB
Logical volume lv1 successfully resized
Filesystem at /dev/vg0/lv1 is mounted on /var2; on-line resizing required
old_desc_blocks = 1, new_desc_blocks = 2
Performing an on-line resize of /dev/vg0/lv1 to 6793216 (4k) blocks.
The filesystem on /dev/vg0/lv1 is now 6793216 (4k) blocks long.
8. Verify this has been performed correctly by checking the following:
nsight-D78BEA#show virtual-machine volume-group status
--------------------------------------------
Logical Volume: lv1
--------------------------------------------
STATUS : available
SIZE : 27.83 GB
VOLUME GROUP : vg0
PHYSICAL VOLUMES :
sda10 : 10.65 GB
sdb1 : 17.18 GB
--------------------------------------------
9. Restart the database server:
nsight-D78BEA#service database server start
Starting database server....complete.
% Database server started
10. Restore the database from the maintenance-mode:
nsight-D78BEA#no service database maintenance-mode
Exiting maintenance mode.
11. Enable nsight in nsight server policy.
