TitleHOW TO Use 'Custom Configuration' Action Option Following Device Discovery To Customize Default Discovery Behavior
Objective
During discovery of devices on the network you may want to treat certain devices differently from others or add / undo configuration actions on specific devices after initial discovery is complete.
Environment
  • Extreme Management Center (XMC, formerly NetSight)
  • All Software Releases
  • Discovery
  • Custom Configuration
Procedure
In general devices identified through Discovery are governed by the Network -> Devices -> Actions and parallel menu options. Settings here are applied globally to all devices.

In "Custom Configuration" devices narrowed down by Vendor and Family linkage can be treated separately but will still have global settings applied initially upon discovery. If certain global settings are undesirable, one can manually remove those settings after discover has completed or automate this configuration modification after the fact using this function.

Initially customize an existing script or one created via Tasks -> Scripts to achieve the desired changes. Test this script against a target device to ensure it completes the desired modifications prior to using the task via Discovery.
  1. Click Add.
  2. Select the appropriate Vendor from the pulldown.
  3. Select the appropriate Family from the pulldown.
  4. Select the applicable Topology, if required.
  5. Assign the scripted task to perform on this group following discovery.
  6. Run Discovery.
