Objective
  • To redirect or forward incoming syslog notifications to a third party syslog receiver.
  • To redirect or forward incoming syslog notifications to an alternative IP, hostname or port combination.
Environment
  • Extreme Management Center (XMC, formerly NetSight)
  • All Software Releases 8.2.x or above
  • Syslog Redirection
  • Syslog Forwarding
Procedure
To redirect syslog notifications to a third party syslog receiver you must create a new or edit an existing Alarm via Alarms & Events -> Alarm Configuration.
  1. Under Criteria -> Click Add (or Edit) and select Log Criteria.
  2. Select Syslog from the list.
  3. Select Match Selected checkbox.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Under Actions -> Click Add (or Edit) and select Syslog Action.
  6. Enter one or more Syslog Server(s), comma delimited, in one of the following formats:
IP
IP:port
hostname
hostname:port
  1. [OPTIONAL] To suppress the creation of an Alarm event each time this Alarm fires
    • Under Other Options select No Current Alarm (action only).
Additional notes
NOTE: The above process will redirect or forward syslog messages to a UDP-based receiver. Extreme Management Center does not currently support redirection or forwarding to TCP-based syslog receivers via this method.
