Objective
  • These are some of the commands that  can be used to verify that switches are switching and routing multicast. 
  • There are more commands that can be found with use of the ? or by consulting the manual.
Environment
  • Securestack
  • S-Series
  • K-Series
  • 7100-Series  
Procedure
  • If multicast is not working with the server and client on the same VLAN  check for IGMP groups.  Typically, if one group works then the switch is configured correctly at layer two.
  • Type the following to see IGMP groups on S-Series, K-Series and 7100-Series:

  • Ensure each vlan has  a querier. If there is no querier then streams may stop unexpectedly.
  • Type the following on the Securestack:

  • Type the following on the S-Series, K-Series and 7100-Series:

  • Use the following commands to  troubleshoot multicast issues in a routed network.
  • Check the routing table.  If  there are no layer three routes and there are layer two groups  then you may have a routing misconfiguration.
  • Type the following to view the Securestack Multicast Route Table:

  • If multicast is not routing to a particular VLAN check the status of the  interfaces.  IF one is not displayed, ensure it is  configured with PIM and in  an operationally and admin up state
  • Type the following on the Securestack

  • If you are not seeing multicast routes from a particular PIM neighbor, check the adjacency with that neighbor.
  • Type the following on the Securestack:

  • If streams  route on one router but not another or you have intermittent multicast  issues check to see that  all streams have the correct RP and it is the same on all routers in the network. 
  • Type the following on the Securestack:
