Objective
Create a Captive Portal that is hosted on the Controller without RADIUS authentication or server.

The steps outlined here are based on the assumption that WLANs are already created.  That process is outside the scope of this article.  Please see additional notes for more information.
Environment
  • Summit Wing: WM3600
  • Summit Wing: 5.5.5
Procedure
  1. Create a Virtual Interface on the Controller
    1. Configuration > Devices > WM Controller > Virtual Interfaces
    2. Click Add
    3. Fill in the following:
      1. Interface IP
      2. VLAN ID
      3. Name
      4. Click Ok
      5. Commit and Save
  2. Ensure the WLAN is tunneled back to the controller
    1. Configuration > Wireless > WLAN > Basic Configuration > Bridging Mode > Tunnel
    2. Commit and Save
  3. Create an AAA policy to forward client authentication requests to a particular RADIUS server (in this case the controller).
    1. Configuration > Wireless > AAA Policy
    2. Click “Add”
    3. Name the new policy and click Continue
    4. Select Add to add a new RADIUS server
    5. Enter the Server-ID as 1, Server Type as onboard-controller and click Ok.
    6. Verify the AAA policy has been created and then click Exit
    7. Commit & Save
  4. Create a DNS whitelist to ensure wireless clients can communicate with the Controller upon authentication
    1. Configuration > Services > Captive Portals > DNS White List
    2. Click Add
    3. Name the DNS White List
    4. Click Add to add a row
    5. Select IP Address from the drop down
    6. Type in the IP address of the VLAN interface created in step 1.3.1
    7. Click add to add a row
    8. Select IP Address from the drop down
    9. Type in the Default Gateway of the WLAN network
    10. Click Ok
    11. Commit and Save
  5. Create Captive Portal Policy
    1. Configuration > Services > Captive Portals
    2. Click Add
    3. Name the Captive Portal Policy
    4. Set Captive Portal Server Mode to Centralized
    5. Enter the IP Address of the interface created in step 1.3.1
    6. Set simultaneous Users to 100
    7. Use the drop down list to select the AAA policy created in step 3
    8. Check the radio button entitled “No authentication required”
    9. Check the box entitled “Terms and Conditions page”
    10. Use the drop down list to select the DNS White List created in step 4
    11. Ensure the web page source, on the Web Page tab, is set to Internal
    12. Click Ok
    13. Commit and Save
  6. Set the WLAN to use the Captive Portal
    1. Configuration > Wireless > WLAN > Security
    2. Use the drop down list to select the Captive Portal Policy created in step 5
    3. Click Ok
    4. Commit and Save
  7. Set the Controller to use the Captive Portal Policy
    1. Configuration > Profiles > WM Controller > Services
    2. Next to Captive Portal Policies there is a box.Check the box with the Captive Portal that was created in step 5
    3. Click Ok
    4. Commit and Save
