TitleHow to Configure SNTP and Timezone on Extreme EOS Solutions
Objective
The objective of this document is to provide a simple example of Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) and Timezone Configuration on Extreme EOS based solutions
This article assumes that authentication for sntp communication between sntp client (ie. S-Series) and server will be disabled.
Environment
  • EOS
  • 7100-Series
  • S-Series
  • K-Series
  • Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP)
Procedure
SNTP
Use the "set sntp server" command to add a server from which the SNTP client will retrieve the current time when operating in unicast mode. (Up to 10 servers can be set as SNTP servers).
The configuration below sets the sntp client operation mode to "unicast" (the default sntp operation mode is: "disable"), "poll-interval" between sntp unicast requests to 30 seconds with maximum of 3 retries.
set sntp client unicast
set sntp poll-interval 30
set sntp poll-retry 3
set sntp server 10.100.10.1

Timezone
Use the command "set timezone <name> [hours] [minutes]" to set the SNTP time zone name and the hours and minutes it is offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

Example:
set timezone EST -5 0
The configuration above sets timezone to the Eastern Standard Time (EST) of the United States.
Additional notes
Please refer to the timendate.com for time zone conversion for your location.
