Objective
Disable telnet to meet requirements of security audit
Environment
  • Securestack all A, B, C models
  • Telnet is enabled by default
  • SSH is disabled by default
Procedure
1. Verify SSH is enabled to maintain in-band management of the switch, SSH is disabled by default.

C5(su)->show ssh status
SSH Server status: Disabled​
​C5(su)->


2. Set SSH to enable if necessary

C5(su)-> set ssh enable
C5(su)-> set ssh reinitialize
C5(su)->

3. Exit the CLI session then use SSH to regain access to the switch command line.

4. Disable all telnet access with this command:

C5(su)->set telnet disable all
Disconnect all telnet sessions and disable now (y/n)? [n]: y
All telnet sessions have been terminated, telnet is now disabled.
C5(su)->

Additional notes
  • First be certain SSH is enabled or you will have only Console port access to the switch after disabling telnet.
