Objective
How to Migrate from a Hardware Wireless Controller to a Virtual Wireless controller
Environment
  • IdentiFi
  • All Hardware Wireless Controllers Capable of running 9.15 and above
  • All Virtual Wireless Controllers
  • Firmware 9.15 and Higher
Procedure
  1. Verify both controllers are running the same 9.15 or higher firmware.
  2. Verify both wireless controllers have valid license keys (Temp to Permanent is acceptable).
  3. Configure Availability on the Hardware Controller to "mate" with the Virtual Controller.
  4. Verify Synchronization is complete on both controllers and all configurations match.
  5. Select 1 AP and change its status on the Hardware controller from "Local" to "Foreign".
  6. Test clients on all VNS'.
  7. Once stratified, select all AP and the Hardware Controller and change their status on the Hardware controller from "Local" to "Foreign".
  8. Verify all APs are "Local" to the Virtual Controller.
  9. Verify network functionality.
  10. Disable/shutdown Hardware Controller.
  11. Change Availability on the Virtual Controller to "Stand Alone".
Additional notes
Same procedure can also be used for moving from virtual controller to another virtual controller.
