TitleHow to add a static route on the N/S/K/7100 Series
Objective
How to configure a static route on the N/S/K/7100 Series

Environment
  • S-Series
  • K-Series
  • 7100-Series
  • N-Series
  • Host Route
  • Static Route
  • All firmware versions
Procedure
  1. Type configure
  2. Type ip route <IP_ADDRESS/MASK> <GATEWAY> (Or <IP_ADDRESS> <MASK> <GATEWAY> syntax can be used)
  3. Type ip route 10.1.10.15/32 10.1.100.1 (/32 is for adding host route)
  4. Type 'show ip route' or 'show running-config routes' to verify new static route is added
Configuring a redundant static route:
  • Configure two routes and set the administrative distance higher  on the backup route unless load sharing is preferred:
ip route <DESTINATION_SUBNET> <NUMBER_BITS_IN_MASK> <NEXT_HOP> <ADMINISTRATIVE_DISTANCE>
  • The following example configures 203.0.113.254 to be used if 10.10.10.1 fails:
ip route 0.0.0/0 10.10.10.1 1
ip route 0.0.0/0203.0.113.254 2
