TitleAdd an EXOS Switch to ExtremeCloud IQ (XIQ)
Objective
How to add an EXOS Switch to ExtremeCloud IQ (XIQ)
Environment
Procedure
Part 1: Add the Serial Number to XIQ

1. Log in to https://extremecloudiq.com

2. Select ”Manage My Network” or choose the external XIQ deployment where you would like to onboard the device (requires admin privileges). Note that a device can only be associated with a single XIQ instance at a time.

3. Add the switch into XIQ:

  • Select Quick Add Devices

  • Select the 'EXOS' device make, then enter in the serial number of the switch (NOTE:The serial number is case sensitive, ex 0123N-45678). Click on Add Devices.

5. The Icon by your switch will turn green after your switch has successfully joined ExtremeCloud IQ. This may take up to 15 minutes once the switch has Internet connectivity (see part 2).

Part 2: Verify the Switch Can Reach the Cloud
  1. The switch must have an appropriate IP address, default gateway, and DNS server capable of resolving internet hostnames for cloud connectivity

  • This can be provided by DHCP which is enabled by default for plug-and-play capability.

  • If you need to configure this manually, you can use the following commands:

configure vlan Default ipaddress <IP/MASK>
configure iproute add default <Default Gateway IP>
configure dns-client add name-server <DNS IP> vr VR-Default
If Using VR-Mgmt (Dedicated Management Port):
configure vlan Mgmt ipaddress <IP/MASK>
configure iproute add default <Default Gateway> vr VR-Mgmt
configure dns-client add name server <DNS IP> vr VR-Mgmt
  1. Verify that you can ping a common Internet hostname (ie extremenetworks.com)

    • If you encounter a message similar to 'unable to resolve hostname', your issue is with DNS

    • If you encounter a message similar to 'destination unreachable', your issue is with network connectivity (IP, Gateway, or Firewall)

X440G2-48t-10G4.5 # ping extremenetworks.com
Ping(ICMP) 216.58.194.206: 4 packets, 8 data bytes, interval 1 second(s).

If Using VR-Mgmt (Dedicated Management Port):
X440G2-48t-10G4.5 # ping vr VR-Mgmt extremenetworks.com
Ping(ICMP) 216.58.194.206: 4 packets, 8 data bytes, interval 1 second(s).

  1. Verify that the switch is connecting to the Cloud with the command 'show iqagent' (30.7+)

Pre EXOS 30.6.1.11-patch1-11 Supplemental Requirements

1. The summitX-30.x.x.x-eciq_agent-X.X.X.XX.xmod needs to be installed that matches your installed EXOS version. (remember to reboot or use "run update" command after XMOD installation)

2. Create the XIQ process to allow the switch to connect to the cloud:

create process iqagent python-module exos.apps.iqagent start auto vr VR-Default

If Using VR-Mgmt (Dedicated Management Port):
create process iqagent python-module exos.apps.iqagent start auto vr VR-Mgmt

3.  Verify the XIQ process is running:

X460G2-48p-10G4.16 # show process iqagent
Process Name     Version  Restart    State             Start Time        Group
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
iqagent          User        0    Ready        Mon Mar  2 20:54:16 2020  Other
Additional notes
To see ExtremeCloud IQ logs:
load script shell.py "cat /usr/local/tmp/eciq/hiveagent.log"
load script shell.py "cat /usr/local/tmp/eciq/agent.log"
30.7+
debug iqagent show log hive-agent all
debug iqagent show log agent all
