Objective
Capture rf packets from Access point radio with RF-domain
  • Roaming issue
  • Wireless Client Association issue
  • Wireless Client Authentication issue
Environment
  • WiNG NX Controllers
  • WiNG AP
  • WiNG VX Controllers
Procedure
  • Make sure wireless client is disconnected before starting trace
  • Open ssh session to the controller and run the below command to get the wireless packet capture from the device rf-domain
 
remote-debug live-pktcap rf-domain default write tftp://1.1.1.1/wireless.pcap radio all count 10000  filter dot11 addr 1 AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF or dot11 addr 2 AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF or dot11 addr 3 AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF
Import Note:
default = your RF-domain
AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF = Mac of the client having issues
1.1.1.1 = your tftp server ip
  • Connect wireless client to WLAN and attempt to recreate the failure 2-3 times
  • Provide client MAC 
 
Make sure that packet related to association are capture in the packet trace. See Wireshark screenshot below.

Basic info to collect:
  • What WLAN is the client connecting to?
  • Are other devices having the same issue?
  • Is this happening on all WLANs?
  • Does the problem happen in a particular area, at a particular time or throughout the site?
  • Has anything changed recently when the issues started?
