Procedure
In certain wireless deployments it is ideal to group APs by floors or areas for optimal smart-rf scanning and calibration. 

Examples of such scenarios:
  • Areas separated by thick barriers (Ex: Warehouses with cold storage or concrete/steel dividing walls)
  • Multi floor establishments (Ex: Hotels, Hospitals)
  • Areas with Exterior lots (Ex: Car rental companies with interior and exterior areas, Shipping docs with interior and exterior areas)
  • Other
Please follow these steps to configure these parameters:

A - Controller based deployments:
  • Log into the controller via Web browser
  • Go to Configuration >> Devices >> Device configuration
  • Select an AP >> Click on Edit (this has to be done on all APs in the list)
  • Under Basic, go to Location >> Enter area or floor information (you may enter both as this is informational only at this point) >> OK >> Commit and Save

  • From the Configuration tab go to Wireless >> Smart RF Policy >> Edit
  • Under Basic Configuration / Calibration Assignment check the 'Enable Per Area' or 'Enable Per Floor' box >> Ok >> Commit and Save.

CLI commands:
>en
#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
#smart-rf-policy <policy-name>
#group-by ?
  area   Group based on area
  floor  Group based on floor
#group-by floor
Or
#group-by area
#com wr
#show context

B - Virtual Controller based deployments:
  • Log into the Virtual Controller via Web browser
  • Go to Configuration >> Devices >> Device Overrides
  • Select an AP >> Click on Edit (this has to be done on all APs in the list)
  • Under Basic, go to Location >> Enter area or floor information (you may enter both as this is informational only at this point) >> OK >> Commit and Save
