TitleHow to configure WM3000 for DNS resolution
Objective
How to configure a WM3000 controller for DNS resolution.
Environment
WM3000 series
Procedure

Using the IP command, configures IP components, such as default gateway, DHCP, Domain Name Service (DNS) server forwarding, name server, domain name, routing standards etc.

ip [default-gateway <IP> | dns-server-forward | domain-lookup | domain-name <DOMAIN-NAME> | name-server <IP> | routing]

The name-server <IP> portion configures IP address of the name server. The following is an example of configuration:

wm3700-421D00*#configure self
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
wm3700-421D00(config-device-00-04-96-42-1D-00)*#ip name-server 8.8.8.8
wm3700-421D00(config-device-00-04-96-42-1D-00)*#ip name-server 8.8.2.2
wm3700-421D00*#commit write memory

There is a limitation of 3 name-servers that can be configured. Beyond that, an error will be displayed:

wm3700-421D00(config-device-00-04-96-42-1D-00)*#ip name-server 208.67.220.220
% Error on 00-04-96-42-1D-00: maximum allowed number of name servers is 3

To verify the configuration, issue the show ip name-server command, check the controller context, or grep for the name-server keyword:

wm3700-421D00*#show ip name-server
----------------------
 NAME SERVER TYPE
----------------------
  8.8.8.8 static
  8.8.4.4 static
----------------------
wm3700-421D00*#configure self
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
wm3700-421D00(config-device-00-04-96-42-1D-00)*#show context
wm3700 00-04-96-42-1D-00
 use profile default-wm3700
 use rf-domain default
 hostname wm3700-421D00
 ip name-server 8.8.8.8
 ip name-server 8.8.4.4
wm3700-421D00*#show running-config | include name-server
 ip name-server 8.8.8.8
 ip name-server 8.8.4.4

To test, ping an external or internal registered address:

wm3700-421D00*#ping extremenetworks.com
PING extremenetworks.com (148.62.1.243) 100(128) bytes of data.
108 bytes from 148.62.1.243: icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=39.8 ms
