Configure the Web Filtering feature to block the access to unwanted content.

Procedure
URL Filter policy
  • Create blacklist or whitelist of different categories / sub-categories
  • Multiple rules can be added to a url-filter policy
  • Precedence for the rule can be specified
  • Statically defined url-list can be added to the url-filter policy

  • url-filter policy can be applied to WLAN / SVI (VLAN) /  Bridge VLAN

A Blocking page can be configured that is sent back to the user instead of the blocked URL, explaining the reason for blocking the requested URL.

Note 
  • The controller and the AP should be able to reach the internet and should have the DNS Server configured
  • The controller should have the dns-forwarding enable
Additional notes
Not supported:
  • Web filtering is not applied to the user Roles in 5.7
  • HTTPS requests are not filtered because of end-to-end encryption
  • SOCKS packets that tunnel HTTP requests are not filtered
  • IPv6 HTTP requests are not filtered in WiNG 5.7 
  • Only English Language is supported for web filtering
  • Web  filtering is not applied to the content of the page. Only the URLs.
  • If the customer is using a proxy server for the Internet, then this feature cannot be used.
