Objective
This how to describes feature implemented with WiNG 5.9 called Auto Election of VC which allows dynamic VC election and failover.

 
Environment
  • All Summit WM3000 Series Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • WirelessWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
  • WiNG v5.X Software
Procedure
VC can be elected automatically based on rf-domain manager selection process (lowest MiNT-ID or highest model). Once Virtual Controller is elected it will install virtual management IP address as secondary address and send GARP update to the network.

Dynamic VC can be configured only on the AP Profile:

Additional notes

VC election priority can be controlled by increasing rf-domain-manager priority under device override.
Redundancy is not supported on AP7622 / AP7602 (only on APs with Enterprise UI).
