TitleHow to filter specific 'Show' command information using the output modifier and 'include' option in WiNG
Objective
To filter specific 'Show' command information using the output modifier '|' (Pipe) and 'include' options in WiNG when too much unrequired information is displayed in CLI
Environment
  • WiNG 5.x
  • WiNG APs
  • WiNG controllers
  • CLI
  • SSH
  • Console (baud rate 115200 or 19200)
Procedure
If specific information is required out of displayed results when issuing the '#show' commands, it can be filtered using the output modifier '|' (pipe) and the 'include' option.

An example of this would be to filter certain wireless client information such as their IP addresses, to which access point they are associated and which encryption type is being used.
  1.  To be able to know what options are available for you to filter from, first you'll have to run the main command which displays all the information.
Example:
#show wireless client detail

 ADDRESS        : 8C-85-90-C1-29-C5 - Toms-MBP 192.168.10.24(vlan:1)
  WLAN           : Extremetest (ssid:Extremetest)

  1. Determine what is needed from the displayed information, in this case we decided on: ADDRESS, ACCESS-POINT and SECURITY and run the following command:
#show wireless client detail | include ADDRESS | ACCESS-POINT | SECURITY
  ADDRESS : 8C-85-90-C1-29-C5 - Toms-MBP 192.168.10.24(vlan:1)
  ACCESS-POINT : Name:ap8533-5C4492 Location:default
SECURITY : Authentication: none Encryption: ccmp
  ADDRESS : C4-84-66-D0-7C-01 - Lab-iPad 192.168.10.17(vlan:1)
  ACCESS-POINT : Name:ap8533-5C4492 Location:default
SECURITY : Authentication: none Encryption: ccmp
Important note: The options you select to filter are case sensitive and should be types exactly as they are displayed on the screen in step 1. So for instance, typing 'address' or 'Address' instead of 'ADDRESS' will not work.
