Objective
How to find the serial number of a WS-C4110 Wireless Controller
Environment
  • IdentiFi
  • WS-C4110
Procedure
There are two different WS-C4110 form-factors released over time.

The first is a Dell R300.
This type started shipping on June 24 2009, and has a hardware rev (at end of serial# NNNNNNNNNNNX) within the range 5A through 5F.
It has its serial number sticker attached on the front, under the bezel plate.
This is what it looks like, both with and without the front bezel plate:

R300 with plate on

R300 with plate off

The second is a Dell R310.
This type started shipping on December 27 2010, and has a hardware rev (at end of serial# NNNNNNNNNNNX) within the range 6A through 6F.
It has its serial number sticker attached to a pull-out "EST" slide tab located mid-front, under the bezel plate.
This is what it looks like, both with and without the front bezel plate:

R310 with plate on

R310 with plate off

Functionality is effectively identical, between the two units.
Units cannot be subject to RMA just because they have a different appearance.
Additional notes
Though the manufacturer's serial number (format "XNXNNXN") is available remotely via the controller's web GUI, that number has little value to Extreme Networks.
