TitleHow to position the antennas of the WS-AP3715I for best coverage?
Objective
To orient the different antennas of the WS-AP3715I for the best possible coverage.
Environment
  • WS-AP3715I
  • New Install
  • Antenna Orientation
Procedure
In the product datasheet for the access points the radiation pattern is listed, and the 3 antennas on the left of the ap are 5ghz/2.4/5ghz
and on the right,  2.4/5ghz/2.4.
.

It is best to leave the three antennas positioned in 90 degrees angles to each other of the same frequency, to better cover the directions of the plane from the Access point wall or ceiling where it is Installed.

The following image is one example of that.

Engineering feedback:  recommendation to set each antenna at a different angle, even with AP's that have MIMO functionality.
CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator) study guide reference states unless a vendor provides a recommendation, then the antennas should be placed at different angles.
