« Go Back

Information

TitleHow to reduce MTU on Extreme Management Center Ubuntu platform
Objective
Reduce MTU on NetSight for connectivity through VPN
Environment
Extreme Management Center 8.0
Procedure
  1. SSH to Extreme Management Center
  2. Run the command
    ifconfig <interface> mtu <MTU SIZE>
  3. Edit the /etc/network/interfaces file and add the MTU size at the bottom. Similar to this:
    # /etc/network/interfaces
    # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
    # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

    # The loopback network interface
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback

    # The primary network interface
    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet static
        address 10.58.128.40
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        gateway 10.58.128.1
        dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8
        dns-search nacabucci.com
        mtu 1400
Both steps are required, step 2 will change the MTU on the interface immediately, step 3 will allow the changes to stay through a reboot.
Additional notes
This procedure does not work on the Access Control appliance. The Access Control appliance software re-builds the interfaces file after reboot.
