Environment
  • Securestack switches
Procedure
With RW account access:

1. Log onto the switch with rw access (using account "rw" or equivalent), via Telnet, SSH, or console

2. Save the active configuration to file
'show configuration outfile configs/<FILENAME>'
3. Enable TFTP Server
4. Copy configuration file to TFTP Server
'copy configs/<FILENAME> tftp://<TFTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS>/<FILENAME>'
5. Open the file with a text editor
6. Delete the admin password line
'set system login admin super-user disable password :02523ab0258709bdd3037bc91a201b8b397e0f4c:'
7. Save the file
8. TFTP the configuration to the switch
'copy tftp://<TFTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS>/<FILENAME> configs/<FILENAME>'
9. Load the configuration which prompts for a reset
'configure configs/<FILENAME>'
10. After the reset there is no password for admin account <ENTER>

With RO account access:

1. Log onto the switch with RO access (using account "ro" or equivalent), via Telnet, SSH, or console
2. Save 'show config' output to log
3. Delete the admin password line
'set system login admin super-user disable password :02523ab0258709bdd3037bc91a201b8b397e0f4c:'
4. Save the file.
5. Reboot switch and enter boot menu by pressing <2> and hit <Enter>.
6. The switch will ask for a password which will be "administrator"
7. When in boot menu, you will enter the number that correlates to "Reset switch to factory defaults"
8. It will move to the next line and then you will enter the number that correlates to "Reset system"
9. Unit will reboot onto factory default settings and then log into the admin account which has no password now.
10. Set an ip address to communicate with on the switch
'set ip address <IP_ADDRESS> mask <SUBNET_MASK> gateway <GATEWAY_IP_ADDRESS>'
11. TFTP the configuration to the switch
'copy tftp://<TFTP_SERVER_IP_ADDRESS>/<FILENAME> configs/<FILENAME>'
12. Load the configuration which prompts for a reset
'configure configs/<FILENAME>'
13. After the reset there is no password for admin account <ENTER>
