This tool installs on a Windows PC and will allow the customer to detect any AP and/or controller on the local subnet. The tool will report AP MAC address, Name, and IP address of each device on the local subnet. APs that have been restarted within the past 10 minutes can also be factory defaulted (the AP serial number is required for this function).
This tool should be used on a PC that is on the wired subnet.
After the tool is installed on the Windows PC, proceed to Start/All Programs/AP Discover Tool:
Launch the AP Discover tool and the following screen should appear:
In the above example, you will notice that the PC has three active interfaces. IFACE 13 is the local subnet and IFACE 25 and 14 are VPN. Select the interface the WiNG v5 APs and/or controllers reside on (in the above example, IFACE 13) and you should see something like the following:
At this time, select option #2 to reset an AP back to default configuration (factory default cannot be performed on the controllers with this tool, strictly APs).
Enter the AP number from the far left-hand side (in this example, AP Num 6, which is ap7522-18AEE4) and enter the AP serial number. If AP has been powered up for over 10 minutes, the AP will not reset (this is for security reasons).
Don’t know the serial number of the AP? The serial number of the AP can be located on the sticker on the bottom of the AP and/or can be obtained from a previous startup/running exported configuration if you have one available. Once you enter the serial number and as long as the AP has not been powered up for more than 10 minutes, the AP will reset back to factory default. Once the AP has completed the reboot, the AP ge1 interface will be mapped to access VLAN 1 and configured as a DHCP client. You should be able to rerun the AP Discover Tool to re-discover the AP and obtain the IP address in order to access the AP.
APs running firmware v5.7 or higher can access the AP UI and/or CLI (Command Line Interface) using admin/admin123 as the credentials. Versions lower than v5.7 will be admin/motorola. Really old versions could be admin/symbol.
