Objective
How to restore WiNG Wireless Controllers and Access Points to factory default from the login prompt.

This procedure IS NOT VALID for AP650s and AP6532 as they do not have console port. In case you want to reset one of those APs consult this article How to factory reset WiNG AP650 or AP6532

After factory defaulting the device and depending on the firmware version you will have different default credentials
  1. On WiNG 4 there are two different passwords, depending on the version it will be motorola or superuser
  2. Before WiNG 5.7 Username: admin Password: motorola (or admin123 for SummitWM and Altitude APs)
  3. After WiNG 5.7 Username: admin Password: admin123

 
Environment
  • All Summit WM3000 Series Controllers
  • All Altitude APs with Console Ports
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • WirelessWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
Procedure
Prerequisites
  • Telnet / SSH client installed on used PC, i.e. Putty
  • Local access to device’s console port 
  • Console cable and PC with console port or USB-console reduction

Serial baud rates (speed):
  • 19200 for legacy devices
  • 115200 for more recent devices

WiNG 4.X Software

From a Console connection, login to the controller with the following credentials:
 
Username: restore
Password: restoreDefaultPassword

Example:

WM3600 login: cli

User Access Verification

Username: restore
Password: restoreDefaultPassword

WARNING: This will wipe out the configuration (except license key) and user data under "flash:/" and reboot the device
Do you want to continue? (y/n):y

WiNG 5.X Software

From a Console connection, login to the controller with the following credentials:
 
Username: reset
Password: FactoryDefault

Example:
L3L_K2_U41_WM1 login: reset
!!WARNING!!: Logging in as 'reset' will clear all configuration and user data under "flash:" and reboot the system. Press Ctrl-C to cancel
Password: 
Rebooting. Will come up with default configuration.

 
Additional notes
  • This will only work from a console connection. This does NOT work from telnet/SSH.
  • All configuration, logs, statistics will be wiped out from memory. It will maintain on both boot partitions the previous installed firmware.
  • Default VLAN1 configuration will be assigned to physical port(s) in access mode.
  • All radios will be turned off as no WLAN / country code is assigned.
  • In advanced topology it can result in connectivity loss.
  • Defaulted devices will be allowed to search for MiNT neighbors via Layer2 (vlan) and Layer3 (IP).
  • Sometimes it happens that there is no Zero IP address under VLAN interface. Verify the presence of ip address zeroconf secondary under the default used VLAN within device default profile.
