Titlemutlicast checksum error message "<Erro:pim.cache.RegMsgCksumFail> Register message from 10.3.0.157, to 10.3.0.25 failed the checksum test" continuously appearing
Objective
How to stop Extreme switches showing continuous <Erro:pim.cache.RegMsgCksumFail> Register message from 10.3.0.157, to 10.3.0.25 failed the checksum test checksum error log message?
Environment
  • All EXOS
  • All Summit switches
Procedure
enable pim
configure pim register-checksum-to include-data
configure pim ipv6 register-checksum-to include-data

Going forward wherever we have include-data configured as checksum value in the configuration above need to be replaced as below:

enable pim
configure pim register-checksum-to exclude-data
configure pim ipv6 register-checksum-to exclude-data

Primary thing is that all PIM routers in customer network should use same configuration with respect to "PIM Register Checksum" calculation.
We can configure "PIM Register Checksum" configuration as "exclude-data" but would always suggest to configure the same during a scheduled M-window. i.e. we can expect the L3 multicast traffic loss until all PIM routers in customer network are configured as exclude-data.
Before changing this configuration, please check "show pim cache" for existing cache entries if any. If there are any cache entries, those multicast streams will be affected until all the corresponding first hop routers are configured as "exclude-data".
Last but not the least yes there is a need of MW in order to perform the change for register check sum value across the network to Exclude-data in order to stop these above reported checksum error log messages.
