TitleHow to Migrate VE interface to Physical L3 Interface
Question
If you are using a Layer 2 VLAN and Virtual Ethernet Interface, how can you migrate to a pure L3 interface on the physical Ethernet port?
Environment
  • NOS
  • VDX
Answer
Example assumes no other ports are using targeted VLAN and the VE is moving directly to the Ethernet interface
Physical ports only support VRRP on the VDX platform, not VRRP-E

Step 1.)  Remove VE 372
Step 2.)  Enable VRRP
*Depending on hardware in use and configuration, you may have to disable VRRP-E before continuing
*i.e. 8770 supports concurrent VRRP/VRRPE
Step 2.)  Disable Switchport config on target interface
Step 3.)  Configure L3 infromation on target interface

Target Interface:

sw0# show run int te 3/1/10
    interface TenGigabitEthernet 3/1/10
     description 10GE link HDC_PNJ
     switchport
     switchport mode access
     switchport access vlan 200
     no spanning-tree shutdown
     no fabric isl enable
     no fabric trunk enable
     no shutdown

Source VE:

sw0# show run rb 3 int ve 200
    rbridge-id 3
     interface Ve 200
      ip ospf area 0.0.0.0
      ip ospf dead-interval 8
      ip ospf hello-interval 2
      ip ospf cost 100
      ip proxy-arp
      ip address 10.10.100.28/28
      vrrp-extended-group 72
       virtual-ip 10.10.100.30
       advertisement-interval 1
       enable
       no preempt-mode
       priority 110
       advertise-backup
      !
      no shutdown

Example Migration:

    sw0# conf t
    Entering configuration mode terminal
    sw0(config)# rb 3
    sw0(config-rbridge-id-3)# no int ve 200
    sw0(config-rbridge-id-3)# protocol vrrp
    sw0(config-rbridge-id-3)# int te 3/1/10
    sw0(conf-if-te-3/1/10)# no switch
    sw0(conf-if-te-3/1/10)# ip ospf area 0.0.0.0
    sw0(conf-if-te-3/1/10)# ip proxy-arp
    sw0(conf-if-te-3/1/10)# ip address 10.10.100.28/28
    sw0(conf-if-te-3/1/10)# vrrp-group 72
    sw0(config-vrrp-group-72)# virtual-ip 10.10.100.30
    sw0(config-vrrp-group-72)# advertisement-interval 1
    sw0(config-vrrp-group-72)# enable
    sw0(config-vrrp-group-72)# no preempt-mode
    sw0(config-vrrp-group-72)# priority 110
    sw0(config-vrrp-group-72)# exit
    sw0(conf-if-te-3/1/10)# no shut

Step 4.) Verify configuration is in place

sw0(conf-if-te-3/1/10)# do show run int te 3/1/10
    interface TenGigabitEthernet 3/1/10
     description 10GE link HDC_PNJ
     no fabric isl enable
     no fabric trunk enable
     ip ospf area 0.0.0.0
     ip ospf dead-interval 8
     ip ospf hello-interval 2
     ip ospf cost 100
     ip proxy-arp
     ip address 10.10.100.28/28
     vrrp-group 72 version 2
      virtual-ip 10.10.100.30
      advertisement-interval 1
      enable
      no preempt-mode
      priority 110
     !
     no shutdown
