TitleQ&A Why Are ZIP Files Downloaded From Extreme Management Center Showing As Empty Using Windows' Built-In ZIP Handler?
Question
Why are ZIP files downloaded from Extreme Management Center showing as empty / empty folders when viewed using Windows built-in CompressedFolder / ZIP handler?
Environment
  • Extreme Management Center (XMC, formerly NetSight)
  • Microsoft Windows
  • ZIP
  • Show Support
  • Config Archives
  • Backup Archives
Answer
This issue is resolved in Extreme Management Center 8.4.0 and above. Configuration archives no longer store files using absolute paths.

Additional notes
Extreme Management Center deployments on Ubuntu / Linux-based platforms create ZIP archive files using relative paths. Relative paths are those that start with or are prefixed with / or \. Storing ZIP archives in this manner is improper and a defect with Extreme Management Center.

Microsoft Windows currently does not support ZIP archives stored in this manner. This is a limitation of the Windows CompressedFolder ZIP handler to support archives with relative paths prefixed in this manner.

Please use any third-party ZIP-compatible archive tool to view and extract the contents of these archives.
