Information

TitleSFP+ and SFP28 Compatibility
Question
Can I use an SFP+ transceiver in a SFP28 port and SFP28 transceiver in an SFP+ port?
Environment
  • VOSS
  • All Supported Software Versions
Answer
SFP+ and SFP28 use the same form factor and hence are compatible with each other. One can use SFP+ transceiver in SFP28 port and SFP28 transceiver in SFP+ but note that the speed will be established with the lowest denominator i.e. 10Gbps.

NOTE: Manual speed configuration is necessary for links to work under this scenario.
Additional notes
  • SFP: 1Gbps
  • SPF+: 10Gbps
  • SFP28: 25Gbps but it can go up to 28 so the name is SFP28, not 25. Note that SFP28 can handle 25Gbps, 10Gbps and even 1Gbps.
  • QSPF28: 100Gbps to 4*25Gbps or 2*50Gbps gives you flexibility and port density.
