TitleAP7502 - FE3 NOT PROVIDING 802.3af POWER TO 802.3af CAPABLE DEVICE
Question
AP7502 FE03 interface not providing 802.3at power to 802.3af capable device.
Environment
  • WirelessWiNG
  • WiNG v5
  • AP7502
  • RFS6010
  • RFS7010
  • RFS4010
  • NX9XXX
  • NX75XX
  • VX9000
Answer
Need to configure the AP7502 FE03 interface to power best-effort at the device level or AP Profile level. This modification can only be performed using the CLI (Command Line Interface) on the AP or from a wireless controller (e.g. VX9000, NX75xx, and so on) that is adopting the AP7502.

You can determine if the AP7502 FE03 has power by performing the following from the AP7502 CLI.

After successful login, perform the following:

enable [enter]
show power status [enter]

If the AP7502 FE03 has power, the output to the following should look like the following:

AP7502#show power status
PoE in: 802.3at Class 4
Port fe3 status: On
AP7502#

If power has been disabled on the AP7502 FE03 interface, the above output should like the following:

AP7502-NX75#show power status
PoE in: 802.3at Class 4
Port fe3 status: Off
AP7502-NX75#

The following is for stand-alone AP7502 deployments:

Log into the AP7502 CLI and perform the following:

enable [enter]
self [enter]
int fe03 [enter]
power best-effort [enter]
com wr [enter]

If APs are adopting to a Virtual Controller AP and/or wireless controller, it would be recommended to perform the modification at the AP Profile, using the following:

Log into the virtual controller and/or wireless controller CLI and perform the following:

enable [enter]
config [enter]
profile ap7502 xxxxxx [enter] (x represents the AP7502 profile. Use tab after ap7502 to see available AP profiles for the AP7502)
int fe03 [enter]
power best-effort [enter]
com wr [enter]

At this time, the AP7502 FE03 should have 802.3af power available for any 802.3af capable device.
Additional notes
The AP7502 FE03 default power setting is best-effort, but there have been instances where the FE03 power was disabled. This article will assist in mitigating this issue.
