Question
How are temperatures reported on K-Series and S-Series for ambient temperature monitoring?
Environment
  • K-Series
  • S-Series
  • Firmware Version 7.11.02 and greater
Answer
  • Ambient temperatures are reported from the fan tray sensor and typically run about 3 degrees Centigrade higher than actual
    • This information is available in the ‘ctron-environment-mib’ or through CLI
    • Values are reported via traps and in the syslog.   (Temps are degrees F x 10 in mib, degrees C in CLI/syslog)
  • To show the Temperature Alarm threshold show sys hardware

There is further debug that can be done in debug mode with the assistance of a GTAC representative to look at temperature history and individual fan speeds and status of individual fans in the fan tray.

The following debug commands can be used to further monitor temperature history, individual fan status and speed within the fan tray.

Fan's general failure status is 00000000

The duty cycle of fan 2 is 31.372 %
The present speed of fan 3 is 3269.230 RPM
The duty cycle of fan 3 is 32.156 %
The present speed of fan 4 is 3207.547 RPM
The duty cycle of fan 4 is 30.588 %
The present speed of fan 5 is 3207.547 RPM
The duty cycle of fan 5 is 33.725 %
The present speed of fan 6 is 3333.333 RPM
The duty cycle of fan 6 is 29.803 %

you will also see the fan's normal operating speed to compare with the above and its full operating speed to see if the fan speeds are correct for the temperature conditions
