TitleCan I create a "User Account" with local account name beginning with a "Number" in EXOS?
Question
  • Can I create a "User Account" with local account name beginning with a "Number" in EXOS?
Environment
  • Summit
  • BlackDiamond
  • EXOS
Answer
  • When creating a New User Account in EXOS using CLI, a local account name that begins with a number CANNOT be created
* X450G2-24t-G4.20 # show accounts
                       User Name Access LoginOK Failed State
--------------------------------  ------ -------  ------  --------
                           admin     R/W       3       0   Enabled
                            user     RO        0       0   Enabled
* X450G2-24t-G4.21 # create account user 123Test
                                         ^
%% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
* X450G2-24t-G4.1 # create account admin 12345
                                         ^
%% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
  • This is a limitation in EXOS and the way EXOS is designed, only the account name beginning with "Alphabet" (can then be followed by a  number) can be created in CLI.
  • From EXOS 15.7 or above, using web (Chalet) the account names beginning with numbers CAN be created on the switch.
User-added image
  • You can see the above account names beginning with the numbers (and numbers only)  created in "Chalet" on the switch:
* X450G2-24t-G4.2 # show accounts
                       User Name Access LoginOK Failed State
--------------------------------  ------ -------  ------  --------
                           admin     R/W       5       0   Enabled
                            user     RO        0       0   Enabled
                           12345     RO        0       0   Enabled
                         123Test     RO        0       0   Enabled
Additional notes
  • There is a feature request for having this functionality to work using CLI. Expected release for this is EXOS 22.1.1.
