TitleCan I turn my WiNG Express AP7522E AP into an Enterprise AP?
Question
Can I turn my WiNG Express AP7522E AP into an Enterprise AP?
Environment
  • AP7522E
  • WiNG 5.9.2.X
  • WiNG Express
  • Swift UI
  • Enterprise UI
  • CLI
  • SSH
Answer
The WiNG Express AP7522E AP can be turned into an Enterprise AP only after upgrading the firmware to version 5.9.2.X and beyond. This is NOT supported in earlier firmware versions.

Once upgraded to 5.9.2.X, the AP will boot up into the Swift UI and will retain the WiNG Express denomination. This is hardcoded and cannot be changed.

Similarly, if you SSH into the CLI using Putty.exe or a similar client and run the command: Show version, you will notice that the AP Model number will still include the E for Express. Again this is hardcoded and cannot be changed.

However, you will be provided with the possibility of changing the UI to Enterprise from the menu tree by going to Configuration >> Access Points >> Check box to the left of the AP Name >> Click on Tools >> Click on Load the Enterprise User Interface:

Confirm reload (reboot) when prompted to:

Additionally, you will be allowed access to the configuration section of the CLI just like any Enterprise AP.

To revert back from Enterprise to Swift UI, the AP will have to be defaulted.

Additional notes
Express APs upgraded to 5.9.2.x can be adopted by standard controllers eliminating the need for Express controllers.
