TitleCan the B5 / C5 be managed by a routed interface?
Question
Can the B5 / C5 be managed by a routed interface?
Environment
  • B5 Securestack
  • C5 Securestack
  • All firmware
Answer
Yes, the C5 / B5 can be managed from a routed interface, and the example is listed below:

Routed Interface on C5 / B5
B5(su)->router(Config)#

interface vlan 10
ip address 172.14.2.1 255.255.255.0
no shutdown

The required C5 / B5 command is listed below:
B5(rw)->set snmp interface vlan 10
Additional notes
Use  “selectable host interface” commands in the configuration for radius, logging and tacacs.
  • If this is not used, the C5 / B5 will randomly choose a router interface IP to source these management protocol packets from.
  • This becomes an issue with radius and tacacs since you would need to add each router interface IP address on the C5/ B5 to the RADIUS server as a trusted IP.
All the commands are configured for the protocol specified.  They are all layer 2 commands.
set logging interface <vlan/loopback> <VLAN #/ loopback #>
set radius interface <vlan/loopback> <VLAN #/ loopback #>
set tacacs interface <vlan/loopback> <VLAN #/ loopback #>
