TitleCan we migrate the custom created alarms like Link UP, Link Down and Link Failed from RL 3.1 to RL 4.0?
Question
  • Can we migrate the custom created alarms like Link UP, Link Down and Link Failed from RL 3.1 to RL 4.0?
Environment
  • Ridgeline 3.1
  • Ridgeline 4.0
Answer
  • The Link UP, Link Down and Link Failed alarms are configured by default. Hence, creating a custom alarm for Link UP, Link Down and Link Failed are not supported in RL 4.0
  • It is an enhancement feature in RL 4.0 whereas in RL 3.1 we can create multiple alarm for the same event (Link UP, Link Down and Link Failed). However, in the RL 4.0 it has been changed.
  • For e.g: When the Link Failed is occurring on a port, it will be in “Outstanding” alarm tab. Immediately, when the Link UP trap received for the port it will move the alarm to “Cleared Alarms And Events” tab. Then it will clear the alarm from the history.
  • To understand the which device and port, we could verify the Source Name and Details tab.
Additional notes
With alarm management in Ridgeline 4.0, if multiple traps were to be associated with a number of alarms then this could possible create a performance issue in which a high volume of alarms would be triggered and flooded at once. Therefor, some alarms will have limitations and cannot be customized to help maintain application performance.
