TitleExtremeWireless - What setting should I use for RF Frame Aggregation (A-MSDU or A-MPDU)
Question
What setting should I use for RF Frame Aggregation (A-MSDU or A-MPDU)
Environment
  • ExtremeWireless
  • A-MSDU
  • A-MPDU
  • MSDU
  • MPDU
  • Frame Aggregation
Answer
Use whatever method suits the environment for normal deployments but be aware:
  • A-MSDU - When the RF environment is noisy, a single uncorrectable bit error will invalidate all of the PDUs (up to 64kb of data or 64 PDUs) since there is only 1 CRC for all the PDUs. The result is a retransmission of the entire payload.
  • A-MPDU - Each PDU still has a CRC so a single bit error will only affect 1 PDU.  So theoretically, A-MPDU will be more resilient in noisy RF environments.
Note: Extreme does suggest using A-MSDU with WDS/Mesh deployments for maximum overall throughput.
