TitleHow do I reset Matrix E1 to factory defaults?
Question
How do I reset Matrix E1 to factory defaults?
Environment
  • Matrix E1
  • All firmware
Answer
There are 2 methods for resetting the Matrix E1 to factory defaults

1. Reset button:

The Reset switch (located on the front of the unit) resets and re-initializes the device, causing all user-entered parameters to reset to the factory default settings. To reset the device processor, press and release the Reset switch. The device goes through a reset process for approximately 30 seconds. Additional downtime may result as the device reenters the network.

2. Dip Switch 7:

The Matrix E1, similar to many Enterasys/Cabletron products, contains on the circuit board an eight-microswitch dip switch bank; which can be used for initiating a download, clearing NVRAM, and/or clearing passwords.

Per the Matrix E1 1H582-51 Installation Guide, Appendix B:
Viewing over the rear of the unit, the dip switch bank is located near the upper right-hand side of the right-hand power supply.
Switch 7 - clears NVRAM configurations to factory default
Switch 8 - clears passwords and community names to factory default

Per the Matrix E1 1H582-25 Installation Guide, Appendix B:
Viewing over the rear of the unit, the dip switch bank is located near the upper right-hand side of the right-hand power supply.
Switch 7 - clears NVRAM configurations to factory default
Switch 8 - clears passwords and community names to factory default

Per the Matrix E1 1G587-09 Installation Guide, Appendix B:
Viewing over the rear of the unit, the dip switch bank is located near the upper right-hand side of the right-hand power supply.
Switch 7 - clears NVRAM configurations to factory default
Switch 8 - clears passwords and community names to factory default

Per the Matrix E1 1G582-09 Installation Guide, Appendix B:
Viewing over the rear of the unit, the dip switch bank is located near the upper right-hand side of the right-hand power supply.
Switch 7 - clears NVRAM configurations to factory default
Switch 8 - clears passwords and community names to factory default

Per the Matrix E1 1G694-13 Installation Guide, Appendix B:
Viewing over the rear of the unit, the dip switch bank is located near the lower left-hand side of the power supply, near the back of the chassis.
Switch 6 - initiates serial Xmodem download
Switch 7 - clears NVRAM configurations to factory default
Switch 8 - clears passwords and community names to factory default

Toggle the appropriate microswitch, reinstall the cover, and power the unit back up.
Additional notes
For option 2, whether a microswitch is initially on or off is unimportant. The switch senses, and reacts to, a position change upon being repowered. It is not then necessary to repeat the procedure to return the microswitches to their original orientations.
