Instructions for testing disk media on Model 1250 AirDefense appliances

There are no onboard diagnostics for the 1250.
To test the drive on the 1250, the customer must download “seatools” from the Seagate Web Site.
For legal reasons AirDefense cannot offer these diagnostic as a download.
The customer will have to obtain them themselves if they wish to try them.

The URL is: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools
The customer will have to register to download the DOS CD ISO version.

The Seagate site will request the drive type as part of registration.  It is ST3250310NS

Once you have the ISO you will have to cut/burn it to a CD. Then boot it.  It will ask if you want to run the long or short test.

You will want to run the long test.  The long test is the one that will attempt to correct errors if possible.

3650/4250 RAID status checks

ARCCONF is not a native Linux utility, it is supplied by Adaptec for controlling and obtaining status for the RAID controller and included in ADE in the StorMan directory.  A full manual of commands can be obtained from http://download.adaptec.com/pdfs/user_guides/CLI_v5_30_Users_Guide.pdf

You must be logged in as root to use these commands.  They will appear to run as smxmgr, but they will only respond with invalid errors.

"/usr/StorMan/arcconf getconfig 1” (no quotes)  will tell you if the array is in degraded mode.

"/usr/StorMan/arcconf getstatus  1 " (no quotes) and/or "/usr/StorMan/arcconf getstatus  1 0" (no quotes) will tell you the percentage complete of a rebuild.  If no return, drive is not rebuilding.

1252/3652 hard drive scan

Extended self test:          sudo smartctl -d ata -t long /dev/sda

Of course you may need to change your drive letter if it is something different.

Takes about 45 minutes on the 1252.  The other commands available on the site can give you lots of good S.M.A.R.T. info which could indicate the health of the drive.
