Question
If you are using external TCAM (external-tables) for l2-l3 (which is the default), how many ipv6 routes can we have in the internal table hardware ?
Environment
  • EXOS
  • BD8900 XL blased
Answer

When using the internal tables, 6k ipv6 routes with a mask <= 64 bits can be stored in the internal table.
Only 256 ipv6 routes with a mask of more than 64 bits can be stored in the internal table.

When there is no more space available for ipv6 routes with a mask > 64 the following message is logged:

01/01/2016 01:01:01.001 <Warn:HAL.IPv6FIB.LongMskTblFull> Slot-X: IPv6 route with mask > 64 bits not added. Long Mask Hardware Table full. (Logged at most once per hour.) 


When using the external-tables for ipv6 much routes can be stored in HW but then ipv4 and l2 will be stored in the internal tables.
