Question
How to import vmdk VX9000 image to AWS?
Environment
  • ExtremeWireless WiNG Controller
  • WiNG 5.8.4
  • VX9000
  • Amazon EC2
  • AWS
Answer
Open a command shell on your PC and issue the following import commands (assuming Amazon CLI tools
are installed):

C:\ ec2-import-volume -O <ACCESS KEY> -W <SECURITY KEY> --region <your region, e.g. eu-central-1> -z <your zone, e.g. eu-central-1a> -o <ACCESS KEY> -w <SECURITY KEY> -b <S3 bucket name> </path/image-file-name>.vmdk -f VMDK
Check the porting status from another command line shell:

C:\ ec2-describe-conversion-tasks -O <ACCESS KEY> -W <SECURITY KEY> --region <your region, e.g. eu-central-1>

Important note:
  • Use file VX9000-INSTALL-5.8.4.0-034R.iso to avoid complications.
  • Confirm that the vmdk file exists locally </path/exported_image.vmdk> otherwise ec2-import-volume command may fail
