TitleInterface In/out utilization does not match with In/out bitspersecond counter
Question
On Brocade MLX/XMR series routers, the interface statistics counters are shown in various ways, e.g. Octets, Broadcast, Multicast, Unicast, Bitspersec, Packetspersec, Utilization etc. Currently, Brocade devices exclude Ethernet overhead (default behavior) when it shows the bitspersec counters, as shown in the example below. See How the InUtilization is almost 90% but the InBitsPerSec is much lower.

MLX#show stat e 3/8

PORT 3/8 Counters:

Answer
The specific command that excludes the overhead is,

MLX(config)#statistics

MLX(config-statistics)#exclude-ethernet-overhead

Syntax: [no] exclude-ethernet-overhead

To disable the configuration, use the no exclude-ethernet-overhead command.

If you like to include the overhead in bitspersec counter, please configure following command. Remember, no Reload is required post implementing this command.

MLX(config)#statistics

MLX(config-statistics)#include-ethernet-framing-overhead

Above command will include the 20-byte Ethernet overhead to the packets received on the interface.

MLX#show stat e 3/8
