TitleIs that possible to use the same VRRP routing instance for ipv4 and ipv6 in a switch.
Question
Is that possible to use the same VRRP routing instance for ipv4 and ipv6 in a switch ?
Environment
  • All summit switches
  •  All Black Diamond switches
  • All EXOS version
Answer
  • Once a VR is assigned with IPv4 address, it becomes IPv4 VR. After this, it will not accept any IPv6 address on that. A similar thing happens when IPv6 address is first assigned to a VR.
  • We  need to configure separate VRs for IPv4 address and IPv6 address when it was in the same VLAN.
  • Basically, we can use the same VRID with different VLANs or same VLAN with different VRIDs.
  • Apart from this, the same VRID can be used for IPv4 and IPv6 but not on the same VLAN.
