TitleIs wireless beaforming technology available for non-11ac WiNG APs?
Question
How beamforming works and is it supported in non-11ac standards?
Environment
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
  • WiNG 5 Software
Answer
Proper beamforming defined by standard is present only in 802.11ac.
Sporadic support of beamforming came with 802.11n but this was not specifically needed within .11n standard hence the support depends on used client device.

AP will support beamforming based on MIMO (and MU-MIMO) but is unable to perform the same without multiple spatial streams.

That means no support of this feature for non-N/AC clients.
