Information

TitleLog message multicast ex snoop pkt threshold exceeded on port <>
Question
When would the log message "multicast ex snoop pkt threshold exceeded on port <port no>" appear in the switch?
Environment
  • All EXOS
  • Summit and BlackDiamond series.
Answer
This log message would appear in the switch log when there are too much IGMP packets received on that port.
IGMP packets are copied to the CPU and the amount of IGMP packets should normally never reach a high number.
When a threshold is reached this error will be printed in the log.
This message will be printed when 2048 packets or more are queued for the snooping module.

This amount of igmp packets is not expected and could be caused by a loop (multicast loop) in the network behind that port.

This threshold cannot be adjusted.
