TitleWhy does "show switch" display No Backup when executing that command from the Master from Summit stack?
Question
Why does "show switch" display No Backup when executing that command from the Master from Summit stack?

Environment
  • Summit
  • EXOS
  • Stacking
Answer
When show switch does not show a backup there could be several reasons for this.
  1. This is a sinlge slot stack (stacking is enabled and when more slots are needed switches will be added to the stack)
  2. No other slots are master capable and are all in standby (show stacking will show this)
    1. To configure a slot for master capable the license must be capable (check this, show stacking detail  is usefull)
    2. Enable master-capable and reboot
      • conf stacking slot <slot> master-capability on
  3. The backup is booting and not up.
  4. The stackports are disconnected
Example output from a stack where there is no backup:
* Slot-1 ACCESS-STACK.2 # sh switch
