TitleS/K-Series : 100Mb operation support on MGBIC-02
Question
Is the MGBIC-02 able to run at 100Mb speed in S/K-Series hardware
Environment
  • S-Series
  • K-Series
  • MGBIC-02
  • FINISAR
Answer
Generally the MGBIC-02 is capable only of single speed 1G operation but it is possible to run at 100M as long as the following conditions are met:
  • 100Mb operation is supported on MGBIC-02 transceivers purchased since January 1, 2013, and labeled Finisar.
  • 100M operation is supported on S and K Series Hardware
  • 100M operation is NOT supported on 7100 series
  • 100M operation requires minimum Firmware Version 8.42.01 on the 8.4xx track
  • 100M operation requires minimum Firmware Version 8.61.02 on the 8.6xx track
FINISAR part numbers that have been confirmed to work correctly at 100M
  • FCLF-8521-3
  • FCLF8521P2BTL-EN  ( support added in 8.62.01 and 8.42.05 )
  • FCLF-8521-3-EN   (adding support in near future release - contact GTAC )
Additional notes
If any of the conditions are not met then you will get the following error:
Chassis(su)->set port spe ge.1.7 100
default speed 100 mbps not supported on port ge.1.7.

If you feel that a MGBIC-02 should work but doesn't then please open a case with GTAC for review
