TitleSTP Auto-Edge Port Condition Statement
Question
What does the Auto-Edge STP Port condition mean?

(!portEnabled && AdminEdge) ||
((edgeDelayWhile == 0) && AutoEdge
&&sendRstp && proposing)

Environment
  • EXOS
  • Summit
  • Black Diamond
Answer
This feature helps to automatically determine a port is an edge port or non-edge port. If no BPDU is received for a period of time on auto edge enabled ports the switch marks those ports as edge ports.
If BPDU is received then the switch marks those ports as non-edge ports.

The condition statement is used to determine a port is an edge or non-edge port  by Bridge detection state machine.

The Edge Delay timer - The time remaining, in the absence of a received BPDU, before this port is identified as Edge Port.
PortEnabled - Will say that the port is enabled/disabled.
AdminEdge  - Configuration of Edge port by administrator.
AutoEdge     - Configuration of Auto edge feature is enable or disabled.
SendRstp     -  Variable Transmit state machine used to identify the BPDU type.
Proposing    -  Set by a Designated Port that is not Forwarding, and conveyed to the Root
                       Port or Alternate Port of a neighboring Bridge in the Proposal flag of an RST BPDU
