  • As per the EXOS documentation "EXOS 21.1 User Guide" and "ExtremeSwitching and Summit Switches: Hardware Installation Guide for Switches Using ExtremeXOS 21.1", we could see the non-identical statements provided on two different documents when the switch status “Overheat”.
Environment
  • Summit x670V-48t VIM4-40G4X module
  • 15.6
Answer
  • Following is the consolidated information that we are planning to update on our future documentation, through CR# xos0066175

Content on EXOS user guide needs to be changed to:-
    -   On Summit family switches, if a switch runs outside the expected range, the switch logs an error message, generated trap, and one of the following actions is executed:

  1. If overheat condition happens on a slot of a SummitStack, then the reset/none option from “configure sys-recover-level” is used to perform appropriate action.

  2. If the device is an X430-8p then the device is shut down regardless of the recovery level and after reboot the user is presented with a prompt of whether or not to boot the switch .

  3. If the device is any standalone summit, other than X430-8p, then only a warning is logged and the switch continues to run with the system state as Overheat. And if the temperature further increases in overheat condition, after the operating temperature crosses a further higher temperature, the hardware resets the switch

Add following note on SummitFamily Hardware installation guide:
    -  Under Temperature topic:The X430-8P switch doesn't have the hardware capability to reset the switch so the switch will be rebooted by software and user intervention is required to boot the switch.
