TitleWhat do the entries in the CFG-STAT column mean when viewing the 'show adoption status' output in WiNG?
Question
When we run the '#show adoption status' command during the adoption process or to troubleshoot adoption issues, we often see different entries listed in the CFG-STAT column. What do these entries mean?
Environment
  • WiNG 5.x
  • WiNG controllers
  • WiNG APs
  • CLI
  • SSH
  • AP Adoption
Answer
Here's a list of entries you might see in the CFG-STAT column when you issue the '#show adoption status' command and what they mean:
  1. *configured: The configuration being pushed to the APs is still in progress
#show adoption status

Adopted Devices:

  1. Configured: The configuration has been successfully pushed to the APs without errors.

  1. version mismatch: There is a firmware version mismatch between the AP/s and controller. The config has not been successfully propagated to the AP/s. For more information on this: What does "adoption status version-mismatch" mean?
#show adoption status

  1. comm error: there is a communication error between the AP and controller causing the config not to go through or fully through. For more information on this:Why am I getting a "comm error, re" CFG-STAT when adopting an AP on a WiNG controller?
#show adoption status

Adopted Devices:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEVICE-NAME       VERSION         CFG-STAT         MSGS ADOPTED-BY        LAST-ADOPTION                  UPTIME

  1. errorThe APs are not properly adopted by controller and displaying an error. Configuration pushed to APs caused connectivity loss with controller. In this case you will notice that the entry in the MSGS column has changed to 'Yes'. You will be able to access the message for the cause of the error. for more information on this:
#show adoption status

Adopted Devices:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEVICE-NAME       VERSION         CFG-STAT         MSGS ADOPTED-BY        LAST-ADOPTION                  UPTIME
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ap7562-871AC0     5.9.1.6-001R    error Yes rfs4000-1C4706      0 days 00:00:39     0 days 02:21:11

To look at the message, run the following command:
#sh adoption config-errors ap7562-871AC0
*** (4, '', 'last config update resulted in connectivity loss with controller; ignore this config update req')

Additional notes
Probable cause
APs were pre-staged with static IP address and Default Gateway; however; the pushed config has no configured Default Gateway resulting in connectivity loss with the controller and error message.
AP profile on controller, does not have its native vlan configured with ip add dhcp and ip dhcp client request option all causing the AP to loose IP when configuration is being pushed, thus un-adopted
