TitleWhat does RxDV and Tx DV Diversity means in Wireless AP Inventory Report ?
Question
  • What does RxDV and Tx DV Diversity means in Wireless AP Inventory Report ?
Environment
  • Extreme Wireless (formerly known as IdentiFi Wireless)
  • All Firmware Versions
  • AP 26xx
  • AP 38xx
Answer
  • What we're seeing here is a report that caters for legacy (non 11n) AP’s and modern 11n AP’s as the code level is 9.21.xx
  • With 11n multipath (MIMO) is a good thing so rather than choosing only the best signal received from each antenna as in legacy a/b/g, 11n ap uses MRC (maximal ratio combining) to process the signal from all antennas and essentially boost the signal, this was not possible with traditional antenna diversity.
  • Older AP’s, let’s say AP26xx allowed you to configure diversity, newer AP’s not.
