Question
What does the 'S' flag indicate in the show FDB output?
Environment
  • SummitStack
  • BD8K
  • EXOS 12.5 and newer
  • MLAG
Answer
The 'S' flag next to an FDB entry indicates that deletion of the entry is controlled by software by the FDB Manager (regardless of the entry being hardware aged or software aged). The 'S' flag is present when MLAG is enabled on a switch.  All FDB entries that are learned on the MLAG or ISC ports will be marked with this flag.

A sample output is below:

Slot-1 Switch-A.4 # sh fdb
Mac                     Vlan       Age  Flags         Port / Virtual Port List
